First things first we want to look at topology. Running a hub, the biggest aspect is going to be "antenna hows and whys" (and these shouldn't be expensive and can even be DIY) - but it'll take different approaches for different terrain. So if both of you could give a vague, (please keep it vague) idea of what region you're in, and if it's rural, suburban, or urban we can start figuring out what the best signal approach is. Right now the hub software is the same for all situations, and the Heltec LoRa dongles have ready-to-go firmware.
